Patan Children Home Event on Child Rights by EL Students

Patan Children Home provides care and education to needy girls, children and infants. Amics del Nepal organises some events every year to make the Patan children engage in fun learning activities related primarily to health and education.

This time, students of Experiential Learning project (EL) went to Patan Children Home to exhibit their performance from the second quarter’s final event held at Amics Activity Centre. This event aimed to educate Patan children about the importance of child rights and their responsibilities ensuring they understand the basic principles. Likewise, the EL students also gained new exposure participating in an event outside the Amics Activity Centre. This allowed them to learn more about the home and its importance in the protection of child rights.

The event was organised on 2nd December for Patan children on a Child Rights theme with the support of eight EL students. Around 26 children and staff from Patan Children Home participated and observed the event while Amics staff and children organised and contributed to run the event successfully. At the event, the EL students demonstrated their learning through presentations, singing performance, testimony, and a book review to express the idea that every child’s right should not just be recognised but upheld, prioritising children’s safety and well-being for proper development. They presented the basic concept of child rights and the Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) while emphasising the problems faced by children in the current day. The event concluded with a big round of applause from the audience as EL students sang whole-heartedly to remind everyone that children are not just vulnerable individuals who need protection; they are individuals with their own unique voices, dreams, and potential.

This project is possible thanks to the support of all the members of Amics de Nepal and the collaborating partners:
