On the 3rd of December, a health workshop was conducted among the senior girls-and-female staff of patan Children’s Home To make them aware of breast cancer. Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, and it is very important for them to know their body parts and take care of them accordingly.
The participants were introduced to the signs and symptoms of breast cancer through a presentation, followed by an audiovisual explaining how to do self breast examination. They were carefully instructed on how to do a self breast examination. Some of the girls and staff were shocked that they could do the examination themselves. Nevertheless, they were instructed to consult a doctor if they were confused or had any symptoms of breast cancer.
As per the questionnaire they filled out at the end of the workshop, this was the first workshop they had attended on breast cancer. They have requested to conduct more workshops in the coming days on similar topics.
