Amor CH Children's Home

Sports activities and health workshop at Amor Children’s Home, Mahendranagar

Taking part in sports has always been crucial for children as it reduces stress and enhances mood, besides making them fit and healthy. With the aim of providing support for a hygienic and healthy environment and building the habit of sports among the children, Amics del Nepal has been organising sports events in its collaborating children’s homes every year alongside educational activities.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Amor Children’s Home being far from the Kathmandu Activity Centre (Mahendranagar, far western Nepal), it was not possible to conduct any events in the last two years. Finally, this September, some of our staff were able to make a visit to Mahendranagar and conduct sports activities with the children of Amor Children’s Home.

Sports consisted of football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and an obstacle race for senior children while younger children participated in fun activities such as bursting balloons, a sack race, and a chocolate race. Beside sports, a health workshop was also conducted to provide them with basic care knowledge and safety precautions to follow during emergency situations (CPR, Heimlich manoeuvre, and immobilisation of limbs). Even though some of the planned activities were not possible due to limited time and weather conditions, the event was very engaging and certainly helped children boost their creativity, teamwork, and interest in sports activities.

This project is possible thanks to the support of all the members of Amics del Nepal and the collaborating partners:
