Community events have been one of the key elements of Amics del Nepal projects to demonstrate the youth’s overall learning experience and link it with community through an event. However, owing to COVID-19, we have not been able to plan such community activities directly with community members from the beginning of 2020. It was finally on December 25, 2021 on the occasion of Christmas that the Social Week youth were able to arrange a community event called “Amics’ 9K Marathon”.
Amics’ 9K Marathon was conducted as a school level marathon with 70+ participants from 10 different schools. The event was organized with the theme “Solidarity and Fundraising” under Social Week.02 session. The marathon also had an essence of encouraging the young generation towards physical fitness and empowering all the passionate school level runners.
Prior to developing the event plan, youth were exposed to the concept of solidarity, fundraising, and event management along with an exposure to fundraising activity while undergoing the project as a field visit. Managing a community event after a long gap was very exciting and also challenging as the nature of the community event was quite intense. However, the youth were able to complete the event successfully which marked the closing of their Social Week.02 session. Social Week youth has begun with another project based on Women’s Rights the 17th January, 2022.
