Amics del Nepal resumed its tuition classes in Siphal’s government school on 24th June after a three-month hiatus. The four week long pilot session that ended on 19th July was aimed at adopting a more creative and practical approach to the tuition classes.
A new way of teaching that demanded more participation and interactive learning was applied. Classes were run using visual aids, arts, games and activities. There was much focus on developing writing and speaking skills among the students. Grade 5 and 6 students and their class teachers were the direct beneficiaries of this project.
The changes to the tuition classes were made after much discussion with the school principal, and because of the need to make education more engaging. These pilot sessions are also Amics’ initial steps in involving school teachers in our project activities and to strengthen future collaborations. The next session is set to start in the third week of August, after the school examinations.
