Kavita and Pramod, 25 days in Catalonia

Kavita, director of Amics del Nepal, and Pramod, coordinator of the Children Program and finances of Amics del Nepal, are two key pieces of the team that makes Amics del Nepal’s cooperation projects possible on the ground.

For 25 days (between March 9 and April 6, 2024), Kavita and Pramod have been in Catalonia to carry out activities, talks, meetings, and visit friends they have made during the years they have been working for Amics del Nepal. During these days, they have been able to achieve the proposed objectives and have had a great time.

Doc-Fest School Collaboration

Pramod and Kavita have participated in the presentation events of the documentaries created in collaboration between Catalan schools and the activities center of Amics del Nepal within the framework of the Doc-Fest project (Amics del Nepal School Documentary Festival). In these events, the entire educational community has participated and enjoyed Nepalese snacks:

  1. Mestre i Pla School of Castellar del Vallès.
  2. Lanaspa-Giralt School of Terrassa
  3. Collserola School of Sant Cugat del Vallès
  4. Orlandai School of Barcelona

Furthermore, a meeting has been held with the Pedagogical Resources Center of Castellar del Vallès to expand the project in the town next academic year.

Collaborations with public educational centers in Catalonia

In addition to the Doc-Fest, Kavita and Pramod have also visited two collaborating centers to carry out activities:

  1. Joan Blanquer School in Castellar del Vallès
  2. Salas i Xandri High School in Sant Quirze del Vallès

Artistic collaboration with the Tinta i Vi painting school

This is the third year that an artistic exchange has taken place between the students of the Tinta i Vi painting school in Sant Esteve Sesrovires and the beneficiaries of the PBL6 project at the Activities Center of Amics del Nepal in Kathmandu. Kavita and Pramod have brought the paintings of the Nepalese students to Sant Esteve de Sesrovires, where they were warmly welcomed by the promoter of the exchange, artist Marta Arañó, and representatives of the town council, led by the mayor. They were able to spend a day visiting the town and tasting paella.

Coordination meetings and interviews with potential volunteers

In addition to the activities they have led, they participated in the presentation of the solidarity poetry book by Cristina Morales, “Mar de fons,” the award ceremony for the international woman award of Sant Quirze del Vallès to Manisha Gurung, and attended various meetings with the Amics del Nepal volunteer team. They also conducted interviews with potential volunteers who want to go and collaborate in Nepal for a period of time. A very busy agenda full of activity!

Visiting Catalonia

Pramod and Kavita have also taken advantage of this trip to have memorable experiences. They visited the Cosmocaixa and MACBA museums. They also visited Barcelona, Girona, Tossa, Sabadell, Terrassa, witnessed a human tower performance, dance performances, and improvised comedy acts, walked up to Tibidabo and Montserrat. Pramod saw the sea for the first time.

Naturally, gastronomy was not lacking. They brought Nepalese food, cooking snacks for the Doc-Fest and the solidarity lunch in Vilassar de Mar, once again promoted by the Òlbia group. They also got to taste some of the most important elements of Catalan cuisine such as a calçotada in Mont-roig del Camp, paella in Sant Esteve de Sesrovires, cannelloni, among many others.

A very fruitful visit. A big thank you from Amics del Nepal to all those who have made it possible or have been able to participate in any of the events!

For those who couldn’t make it, don’t worry, we’ll surely be back next academic year!

This project is possible thanks to the support of all the members of Amics del Nepal and the collaborating partners:
