Women Literacy Project is one of the projects run by Amics del Nepal designed for the women who are willing to develop their literacy skills to lead a well informed and dignified life. The main objective of the project is to uplift women’s quality of life by focusing on education and. In order to achieve all the targeted objectives, the project runs various activities such as literacy classes, field visits, guest speaker sessions, and health workshops. The project is being implemented in Kathmandu and Makwanpur district. The 12 women of the literacy group in Makawanpur have ended with all the three levels of books of WLP designed by Amics del Nepal. After the completion of these books, the women have gained basic literacy skills which will make their daily lives easier in the coming days.
The final closing event was conducted on 20th of December at Bhimphedi, Makawanpur. The Kathmandu team along with the program director traveled to Bhimphedi for the final closing event. The Bhimphedi team were full of hospitality, and welcomed us with garlands and tika. There were a total of 15 participants in the event (10 women, 2 Bhimphedi team & 3 Kathmandu team). Women were well engaged during the event. They shared testimonials of their journey in this project of two years. They even talked about how these literacy classes had made an impact in their daily lives. At the end of the event, Nepali story books and notebooks were distributed to the women to encourage them to continue their learning. Winter hygiene packs were also distributed at the same event which was closed with a lunch that was prepared by the women themselves.
