On 15th February, the Women Literacy Project (WLP) under the Women Hub of Expansion Program organized a health and hygiene workshop on cervical cancer. The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness about cervical cancer, its symptoms and method of diagnosis, and accessible cancer screening and treatment options.
A total of 11 women attended the session which opened with their understanding of cervical cancer. Throughout the event, women were curious to learn about what causes cancer, and its method of diagnosis, screening, and treatment. Since the Nepal government has been giving the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to girls studying from grade 6 to 10, the workshop helped women recognize the importance of vaccination. It also addressed the myths and misinformation surrounding the vaccination. The sessions also guided the women in locating facilities where HPV screening and treatment services are easily accessible.
Through the health workshops, Amics del Nepal ensures its beneficiaries are aware and able to maintain habits leading to healthy lives. Since workshops like these promote awareness and encourage healthier lifestyles in the community, Amics will continue to give more such workshops to its beneficiaries in the future.
