Expansion Program Himalayan Economic Upliftment

First Visit to Manang in 2025

From February 22 to 27, a team of four staff members from the Activity Centre in Kathmandu conducted their first visit of 2025 for the Himalayan Economic Upliftment (HEU) project in Manang. The visit included a three-day workshop with women, a teacher training workshop at Shree Gauri Shankar Basic School, women’s English classes, classroom observations, meetings with the Voluntary Monitoring Committee, and contract signings with key stakeholders.

The women’s workshop focused on Social Capital and Self-Awareness, helping participants understand different forms of capital for business growth and discuss workplace challenges and solutions. Similarly, the teacher training workshop at Shree Gauri Shankar Basic School covered the Research and Planning component of Project-Based Learning (PBL), guiding ten teachers in developing lesson plans and designing interactive classroom activities.

During the visit, the team also presented the HEU project to the seven-memberVoluntary Monitoring Committee, explaining its objectives and future plans. The committee, including the School Management Committee (SMC) president, school principal, HEU English teacher, ward chairperson and representative, president of Aama Samuha and HEU beneficiary, discussed the project’s direction and signed a contract. Additionally, Shree Gauri Shankar Basic School and HEU women beneficiaries also signed agreements formalising their commitment to the initiative.

Throughout the visit, various needs of the school and women beneficiaries were identified, including the need for additional educational resources and digital literacy classes for women. As this marks the first year of project implementation in Manang, Amics del Nepal will continue to adapt its workshops to address the community’s evolving needs by working closely with committee members. The organisation also aims to respond to these needs in its upcoming visits.
