Children Program Experiential Learning (EL)

EL Field Visits and Sport visit

The Experiential Learning students participated in a series of field visits to Bigmart, Farmer’s Market, and a sport outing at Dunkmandu on 31st August. The primary aim of these visits was to observe and analyse plastic and packaging practices in retail environments, as well as to explore alternatives for reducing plastic consumption. These experiences provided the student with practical insights into sustainable packaging practices and the environmental impact of plastic use through direct observation. Following these educational visits, the students enjoyed a sports outing at Dunkmandu. This activity aimed to enhance teamwork and collaboration, reinforcing skills that are crucial for their life.

A total of 22 Experiential Learning students from grades eight, nine, and ten went on field visits with Amics staff and an intern. The children were keen to examine the use of plastic and packaging items across various product categories, ranging from groceries to household items. At Bigmart, the students learned about the rising issues of plastic and packaging and discussed the growing concerns surrounding them while brainstorming potential solutions. Likewise, the visit to Farmer’s Market allowed them to learn about alternative packaging methods through direct observation. Following these educational visits, the students enjoyed a sports outing at Dunkmandu. This activity aimed to enhance teamwork and collaboration, reinforcing skills that are crucial for their life.

To conclude, the field visits served as a catalyst to broaden the student’s understanding of environmental and sustainability issues, particularly related to plastic and packaging. The EL children are now preparing for their final event on the theme of environment and sustainability, with a specific emphasis on plastic and packaging.
