Youth-Led Clean-Up Campaign on World Environment Day

On June 5th, 13 youth from SW11 joined forces with over 60 students from classes 6 and 7 of Shram Rastriya Secondary School for a Clean-up Campaign in the areas around Kumarigal and Tusal. This initiative was strategically conducted by After SEE Youth on World Environment Day to raise awareness among young students about the importance of maintaining a clean environment. The campaign aimed to encourage responsible behavior towards waste disposal and promote the practice of picking up litter when encountered.

The primary objective of the campaign was to engage the youth actively in community service, fostering a sense of responsibility towards their surroundings. This involvement not only aimed to clean up the areas but also to influence other community members to be more environmentally conscious. A significant goal was to educate the students about different types of waste—organic, landfill, and plastic. By sorting and auditing the collected waste, the students learned about the importance of proper waste management and the various categories of waste.

During the campaign, the youth realized the necessity of proper waste management systems and their potential impact on the community. In addition to cleaning up the areas in Tusal and Kumarigal, the group also visited Tarebhir-Budalinkantha for a hike. They observed how even a place of natural beauty could suffer from pollution and degradation. This experience underscored the message that we have only one Earth and highlighted the critical role that awareness and proactive activities play in preserving our environment.

Through this campaign, the youth demonstrated that collective effort could bring significant positive changes to their community. The initiative not only cleaned up the local areas but also educated and empowered the students to take ongoing action for environmental conservation. This campaign serves as an exemplary model of how youth engagement can lead to sustainable community development and environmental stewardship.
