Expansion Program Himalayan Economic Upliftment

A Visit to the district of Manang

A team from Kathmandu travelled to Manang on 25th July, a district in west Nepal, very famous for its trekking and hiking trails to Annapurna. This visit was made for the Himalayan Economic Upliftment (E2) initiative under Amics’ new Expansion Program. The project focuses on empowering women and youth in Manang by enhancing their vocational and entrepreneurial skills  for their economic upliftment. The main objective of the visit was to conduct a baseline survey for needs assessment.

Amics staff interacted with high school students pursuing technical education in agriculture at Chame village, headquarter of Manang district. Wherein the students discussed their future plans and endeavours. This engagement aimed to better understand and support educational goals of the students. The team also conducted a meeting with Chame Village Development Committee (VDC) regarding the Himalayan Economic Upliftment project and the possible ways to improve the education, economy and livelihood of the village.

A focused group discussion with the local women of Timang village regarding their needs and livelihood opportunities was also conducted during the visit, wherein 25 women and 3 staff participated in the discussion. The participants discussed the possibility of a good livelihood wherein some of the women engaged in the hotel business expressed a need for English language and hotel management training. The two volunteers, Anna and Jordi, currently at Timang, will soon initiate the basic English literacy classes for the women coordinating with the local English teachers of  Gauri Shankar school at Timang.

Amics del Nepal is dedicated to improve the education, economy, and livelihood of the villagers through the launching of the Himalayan Economic Upliftment project at Manang, wherein the team will continue to visit the implementation site for further study and prepare a concrete plan to launch the project in 2025.
