Experiential Learning (EL) Social Week (SW)

Amics Online EDP Phase-1 Closing

The 5 weeks long Amics Online EDP (English Development Program) Phase-1 sessions (1.5 hr session; twice a week) has come to a close on 9th October 2020. Because English language is such a basic life skill, this first phase was conducted with an aim to understand the students’ baseline in English language and build on the missing language skills using our Amics’ approach of student-oriented experiential methods, and simultaneously keeping our core learning outcomes of the 5 C’s (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, caring) where the children from grade VIII, IX & X and youth from grade XI participated.

The Youth EDP sessions were based on the idea. Where does an idea come from? What do we need to do with an idea? were few of the questions tackled during the sessions. Apart from that, basic 3 grammar components were introduced to the students; Nouns and Adjectives, Article and verb to be. By the end of the course, students were able to know where ideas come from and what they need to do with the ideas as well as the improvement in English reading and grammar skills.

While the Children EDP was based on the theme Kindness and Caring. The children were also introduced to basic grammar components (such as nouns, Pronouns, Adjectives & Verb to be) and reading & listening activities. Besides grammar, children were able to understand and explore the Kindness and that it is always good and important to be a kind person in life. They were also encouraged to do an act of kindness every day.

The sessions were built and run dynamically by providing digital materials to the students and home assignments. Videos, pictures, stories were the mediums used during the sessions. Based on our engagement and observation, the next phases will be planned and developed which have been decided to begin early November.
