Teej 2077

Teej is an Hindu festival widely celebrated by Nepalese women. This day is celebrated with songs, dances and prayers dedicated to the goddess Parvati, and her union with Shiva.

Many married women fast on this day to wish their husband a long life. And many young girls fast ask for a good husband.

This day the women have a party and dress in cheerful red dresses and dance in the street in groups, to the sound of music.

This year, the covid19 situation has affected the celebration in groups, but in the houses it has continued to be celebrated within the families. And in our children’s homes as well. In Bhimphedi Children’s Home, for example, they have held a small dance contest and the girls have put on their best dresses.
