holi in Balmandir

Holi also known as the festival of colors is an Hindu festival celebrated on a full moon day at the end of the month of Falgun (March).

According to a Hindu myth, the demon king Hiranyakashyap who was unhappy with his son Prahlad for his wholehearted devotion to the god Vishnu ordered his sister Holika to kill Prahlad. Following his instruction, Holika who had a boon from the god that fire wouldn’t harm her sat on a fire by taking Prahlad on her lap. But she was burnt to death while Prahlad remained unhurt due to the blessings of Vishnu. Since then, Holi has been celebrated as it symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.

We celebrated Holi in Balmandir with lots of joy and fun. We played it with different colored powders, water guns, water balloons, bucket of colored water by splashing them on each other. Everybody enjoyed and had a great fun filled Holi together. The festival brought happiness, love and smiles on everyone’s faces at Balmandir.
