Friends of Nepal

What is and what does Amics del Nepal?

Amics del Nepal is a legally constituted body and is recognized by the Spanish Government. It is registered in the Autonomous Government’s list of recognized Associations, with the number 17,327 under the first section of Barcelona. The Association is made up of people interested in helping with the development of Nepal, as well as letting people in Spain know about its culture and customs.

Amics del Nepal, as a non-government organization (ONG) wants to contribute to the development of the Nepalese society. Initiating and promoting projects of co-operation and help, in collaboration with groups and associations in other countries.

The Association has established the first collaboration agreements with Nepalese organizations in order to channel all of this help. For example, we have put into action a sponsoring program for children in the Children’s Home of Katmandu and Mahendranagar. At the moment this program is helping around 55 children, receiving direct help for food, education, and clothing.

Also, Amics del Nepal have financed the construction of a center - the Amor Children’s Home - through private donations. This center, of 3,000 m2, consists of a two-store building and several workshops for the training of children. The purpose, which the Friends of Nepal have, is to be able to develop this as a training center for all of the population of Mahendranagar who need it. And also to plan studies not only for the children of the center itself, but also those around the area.

Other projects of help and co-operation will continue to open as the demands from other Nepal Organizations arise and according to the resources available of the Friends of Nepal.

Framework of the Friends of Nepal
According to the rules of the organization, the Amics del Nepal has as its main aim to carry out co-operation projects for development through non-governmental organizations in Nepal. Preferably with those who are devoted to the area of children and their protection.

The Association will also have the aim of campaigning within Spain to promote awareness of the current situation in Nepal, helping cultural exchanges with other ONG groups in the country and promoting awareness of Nepalese culture and tradition in Spain.

In order to carry through these goals, Amics del Nepal will attempt to find the necessary resources from among members and contributors, as well as from among other associations and bodies, and public and private groups. The association will additionally run conferences, courses of awareness, establish working-parties, publish articles, and make radio and television programs to promote awareness. With all activities carried out within the current legislation.

Projects of help and co-operation

 Children's Home (CH)
The Amics del Nepal helped the construction of a new orphanage in Mahendranagar. This orphanage is to be known as the “Amor Children’s Home”. It is partly named after the person who made the donation to help in it’s building: Sonora/ Mrs. Núria Amorós of the Barcelona Friends of Nepal.

The objective behind the ACH is to make the discarded orphans and abandoned children, from the different communities of the country into self-sufficient, responsible and productive citizens, by providing them with attention, help, food, clothing, health, education, and schooling.

It is hoped that the Amor Children’s Home achieves the principal aim, which is to look after the children of the community in the West of Nepal. An area to which neither government nor ONG group efforts have up to now arrived.

During summer time, voluntary members of Amics del Nepal spend one month in Amor Children’s Home in Mahendranagar working, helping and also teaching and living together with the children.
